RELEASE 0F FIRST PROPOSED REDISTRICTING PLAN The Legislative Services Agency will deliver to the members of the General Assembly a proposed congressional and legislative redistricting plan at 10:00 a.m. on September 16, 2021. The documents delivered to the members of the General Assembly will include a bill embodying the plan as well as a statistical report providing information concerning the plan, including maps of the proposed congressional and state legislative districts. Shortly after delivery of the redistricting plan to the members of the General Assembly, the information submitted will be made available to the public through the Internet on the Iowa Redistricting 2021 link accessible from the Iowa General Assembly's home page. Information on the website will include a copy of the bill and the statistical report delivered to the General Assembly as well as maps of the proposed congressional, state Senate, and state Representative districts, to include individual state legislative district maps. In addition, the boundaries of the congressional and legislative districts will be available for download in an ESRI shapefile format, a Census block equivalency file, and as a Geographic Information System (GIS) web service. PUBLIC HEARINGS AND COMMENT SCHEDULE The Temporary Redistricting Advisory Commission (TRAC) will solicit public comments on the first proposed redistricting plan by conducting three virtual public hearings at the following times: Monday, September 20: 7:00 – 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 21: Noon - 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 22: 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. On-line comments will also be accepted by the TRAC until the start of the last public hearing. Signups for the public hearings as well as the ability to make on-line comments on the plan will be available upon release of the first proposed redistricting plan and can be made through the TRAC public hearing links on the Iowa General Assembly’s home page.

On August 17, 2021, Ed Cook, legal counsel for the Iowa Legislative Services Agency, announced that the Iowa Temporary Redistricting Advisory Commission would release the first draft of proposed state legislative district maps on September 16, 2021.[9] The Commission also scheduled three virtual public hearings on the following dates:[10]

  • September 20, 2021 7:00 p.m. CT
  • September 21, 2021 12:00 p.m. CT
  • September 22, 2021 6:00 p.m. CT
