Why Mike Blouin?

health care

“Too many Iowans are working full-time for low wages without health care benefits.  Mike Blouin has a health care plan that helps them access health care. He also has a plan that would insure more children and provide better services for seniors.  Iowa needs a leader like Mike Blouin to fix its broken health care system.”

“I’m supporting Mike Blouin because I agree with him. College tuition rates need to be frozen.  Otherwise, kids like ours, in working families, won’t be able to afford college.”

privatization

“I’m voting for Mike Blouin because he’ll stand up to those who want to privatize government services.  We need a Governor who cares about what’s best for the people—not what’s best for the big corporations.”

Labor’s Choice For Congress

Bruce Braley

In Iowa’s First District

Bruce Braley

A Voice for Workers in the United States Congress

When the candidates for Iowa’s 1st District Congress are compared, Waterloo’s Bruce Braley stands out as the best choice for working families.

The voting records and the AFL-CIO Congressional Candidate Questionnaires of each candidate in the 1st District race were carefully studied before delegates to the Iowa Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO C.O.P.E. Convention voted, on March 25, to endorse Bruce Braley.  Bruce Braley received a perfect score on his AFL-CIO Congressional Candidate Questionnaire.

As a member of Congress Bruce Braley will sign on as a co-sponsor of the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA).  He will oppose the WTO and other trade agreements that weaken worker rights.  He will oppose efforts to privatize Social Security and he will support legislation to strengthen private pensions.  He has pledged to support the Davis Bacon Prevailing Wage Act and he will oppose the privatization of public services.

His long record of community service and his proven leadership as President of the Iowa Trial Lawyers Association combine to make Bruce Braley uniquely qualified to served as Iowa’s 1st District Representative.

“Washington just isn’t working for us anymore. From a failing Medicare prescription drug plan to a vast culture of political cronyism and corruption, from soaring gas and energy prices to a broken healthcare system, it is time for a change. I’m running for Congress to stand up for working families and bring common sense solutions to Washington.”

Make a Difference

Vote on June 6

When Iowans vote for a candidate for governor on June 6, we will be setting a course for at least the next four years, and quite possibly for much longer.  That is why it is important that working Iowans, by voting, have their say in selecting a candidate who will best represent them, their families, and other working Iowans.

Mike Blouin has been endorsed by the Iowa Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO as the best candidate for workers and their families in the race for governor.  The delegates who met at the Federation COPE Convention on March 25 and voted to endorse Mike Blouin for Governor were a cross-section of working men and women from all sectors, public and private, manufacturing and building trades, hi-tech and service.  They had one thing in common—the knowledge that whether workers progress or fall behind depends in large part on Iowa’s political leaders and the decisions they make.

Significant factors in the decision to choose Mike Blouin as the endorsed candidate were his previous service in the Iowa Legislature and in the U.S. Congress and his responses to questions in the candidate questionnaire, as well as his statements during appearances at the Federation’s Legislative Conference and at the 2005 State Federation Convention.

Mike Blouin’s past record of strong support for workers’ issues and his vision for an Iowa that celebrates and lifts up workers combine to make him the best choice as Iowa’s next Governor.
