Iowa Federation of Labor Endorses Obama
An Iowa union today endorsed Democratic President Barack Obama as party officials work to show unity.
Here’s the news release:
DES MOINES – Today, Iowa AFL-CIO released their resolution supporting the re-election of President Obama. This resolution, which was unanimously approved recently at an Iowa AFL-CIO convention, strongly supports the endorsement made in March by the national AFL-CIO.
This resolution comes as a result of the continued steps President Obama has taken since 2009 to make this economy stronger. When the President took office, the U.S. was losing 800,000 jobs a month. Today, in every single one of the last 25 months, American companies have added jobs, totaling nearly 4 million and counting. Manufacturing jobs in America have been growing for 33 straight months. “The Iowa AFL-CIO is proud to support the re-election of President Barack Obama. He has worked hard to create good-paying jobs here at home, and build an economy to last. Time and again, he has demonstrated his tireless support for working men and women across this country. Now, we are going to work tirelessly for him to ensure that President Obama gets four more years in the White House,” said Ken Sagar, president of Iowa Federation of Labor AFL-CIO.
“We are proud to have the support of the Iowa AFL-CIO for the President’s re-election campaign. No one knows better the challenges facing Iowa’s workers than the men and women of the Iowa Fed, and their support demonstrates that in this election, there is only one person who will stand up for the workers of our state and nation – President Barack Obama,” said Obama for America Iowa State Director Brad Anderson.
The news comes on the same day that the Obama campaign began running a new ad highlighting Mitt Romney’s belief that a strong economy is built on outsourcing, loopholes and risky financial deals. The ad responds to an ad released last week by Americans for Prosperity, a Romney Super PAC. Romney and his Big Oil allies keep launching false and straw men attacks that have been repeatedly debunked by independent fact checkers. Please see the new campaign ad, titled “Swiss Bank Account.”
“President Obama’s immediate actions helped create jobs for projects here in America, not overseas. The ad released by the Obama campaign today demonstrates exactly the reason why we’re supporting President Obama’s plan to create jobs here in America and encourage companies to bring jobs back home over Mitt Romney’s strategy of shipping jobs overseas both in the private sector and as governor of Massachusetts,” Sagar said.
