Working Class Heroes
Early August of this year, the Iowa Federation of Labor rolled out their "Give Me 10" program dealing with Iowa's absentee ballot program.
The program got off to a slow start, but three local Des Moines area union workers have gone beyond 10.
Kerry Bowen, CWA 7102, Lee Thielman, UA 33 and Dan Kelly USW 310, have brought in a total of 70 absentee ballot requests just this week.
These three union members have come into the Iowa Federation office, smiling and ready to go get more.
"This shows how easy it is for everyone to get the 10 absentee ballots we are asking each union member to get" said Ken Sagar, President of the Iowa Federation of Labor. "These three are truly working class heroes."
Absentee ballots have been proved an effective way to support labor endorsed candidates.
The ballots will be available September 27, where people can then vote in the privacy of their own home, and use the mail to send them back. Once they have voted, most of the political phone calls will stop as well as the door knocking.
This too save resources the unions can use elsewhere during this election.
