     Prior to being hired as an ARA Organizer, Slater served as a Staff Representative for CWA, working with public and private sector units in Iowa from 1995 until retirement in April 2009.

     Slater's history with the labor movement began in 1977 when she signed her first union membership card with CWA Local 7102. She was active as a steward almost from day one, walked the picket line for the first time in 1984, ran for local office for the first time in 1985, and became Local President in 1990.

     Over the course of thirteen years, Slater has been involved with The Home Connection, Iowa Labor Center, Prison Industries and University of Iowa College of Public Health Advisory.
