Conventions

The Iowa Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO holds annual conventions to determine policy and chart a course for trade union legislative and political  action.  Additionally, in election years, the Federation holds pre-primary conventions to endorse candidates for office.

August 2001

Sixteen officers were elected to 4-year terms to serve the needs of working Iowans.  Speakers included:  U. S. Senator Tom Harkin, Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack, and AFL-CIO Executive Vice President Linda Chavez-Thompson.

August 2002

One officer was elected to fill a vacancy.  Speakers included:   U. S. Senator Tom Harkin, Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack, AFL-CIO President John Sweeney,  and U. S. Congressman Dennis Kucinich from Ohio

August 2003

One officer was elected to fill a vacancy.  Speakers included:   U. S. Senator Tom Harkin, AFL-CIO Secretary Treasurer Rich Trumka,  and a Presidential Forum with U.S. Senator John Edwards from North Carolina, U.S. Senator John Kerry from Massachusetts, U.S. Senator Bob Graham from Florida, former Vermont Governor Howard Dean, U.S. Congressman Dick Gephardt from Missouri, and U. S. Congressman Dennis Kucinich from Ohio.

Eighteen officers were elected to 4-year terms to serve the needs of working Iowans.  Speakers included:  U. S. Senator John Edwards, Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack, and AFL-CIO Secretary Treasurer Rich Trumka  and a Gubernatorial Forum with former Congressman Mike Blouin, Iowa Secretary of State Chet Culver, Iowa House of Representative member Ed Fallon and Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Patty Judge.
